Lance, Gilchrist Named 1st-Team All-Americans

Hoop Scoop released a list of 20 All-America teams and senior wing Lance Stephenson of Brooklyn Lincoln and sophomore wing Michael Gilchrist of St. Patrick of Elizabeth headlined the first team.

Below are several of the All-America teams.

Here are some interesting notes:

**Kevin Boyle’s St. Patrick team has three All-Americans among the first seven teams: Gilchrist (First); North Carolina-bound guard Dexter Strickland (Sixth); and junior guard Kyrie Irving (Seventh).

**St. Anthony features Villanova-bound wing Dominic Cheek on the Sixth team, and St. Benedict’s has Texas-bound sophomore forward Tristan Thompson on the Third team and Texas-bound sophomore guard Myck Kabongo on the Seventeenth team.

**Among New York teams, Lance is on the First team; Bishop Loughlin junior wing forward Jayvaughn Pinkston is on the Twelfth team and Miami-bound senior guard Durand Scott of Rice made the Thirteenth team. Also, former New York City guard Doron Lamb, now a junior at Oak Hill (Va.) Academy, made the Tenth team.

**Villanova’s blockbuster class for next year includes players on the Sixth team (Cheek);  Eighth team — senior PG Maalik Wayns of Philly Roman; and Ninth team — Mouphtaou Yarou of Montrose (Md.) Christian.

**Rutgers, Seton Hall and St. John’s don’t have a single player on the list. Among Big East teams will multiple commits on the first 20 teams are: Villanova (4); Marquette (3), Louisville (2) and Pittsburgh (2). Syracuse, Cincinnati and UConn each had one.

**Illinois of the Big 10 chimed in with five players on the top 20 teams, including three seniors and two juniors.

**The sophomore class is emerging as the next great class in high school basketball, according to Clark Francis of the Hoop Scoop. Four of the top 10 ranked players, six of the top 30, 10 of the top 55 and 15 of the top 100 are in the Class of 2011.

That group includes Gilchrist; 6-3 Tony Wroten of Seattle Garfinkel; 6-8 LaQuinton Ross of Jackson (Miss.) Murrah, 6-3 Austin Rivers of Winter Park  (Fla.), 6-3 Trevor Lacey of Huntsville (Ala.) Butler; 6-5 Wayne Blackshear of Chicago Curie, 6-7 LaBryan Nash of Dallas Lincoln, 6-7 Chane Behanan of Cincinnati Aiken, 6-7 Aaron Ross of Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview, 6-8 Mike Shaw of Chicago De La Salle, 6-9 Rakeem Christmas of Philly Northeast, 6-1 Marques Teague of Indianapolis Pike, 6-1 Myck Kabongo of St. Benedict’s, 6-5 PJ Hairston of Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley and 6-1 Jamal BRanch of Atascocita (Texas) High.
