LAKELAND, Fla.– Future Duke Blue Devil Grayson Allen thinks that Duke would be the perfect destination for the No. 2-ranked player in the Class of 2014, Myles Turner, who has set an official visit to Duke for March 8.
“It would be great to have him,” Allen told SNY.tv after Florida the state semifinals. “We already have the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation with the four guys we have right now, and he would put us over the top.”
Allen and Turner played together at the LeBron James Skills Academy during the summer, and Allen feels that Turner and Jahlil Okafor could coexist well.
“He’s a great player, and an even better person to be around,” Allen said of Turner. “Jahlil is more of an on-the-block big man, and Myles can really stretch it out, shoot it from deep. I think they would complement each other well. I hope he choses the right school.”
The No. 20 player in the nation, Allen will be playing alongside all of his future teammates in Okafor, Tyus Jones, and Justise Winslow, as well as Turner, at the McDonalds All-American Game [April 2]. He says that going to Chicago is something he’s been looking forward to for a long time.
“It’s always something I wanted to do,” Allen said. “It’s felt great to achieve that. I was at home with my parents and my mom saw my name on the TV, she was screaming and stuff, it was just awesome.”
Allen, one of the most athletic players in the nation could be a candidate for the 3-point contest as well as the dunk contest in Chicago. He won the dunk contest at the Beach Ball Classic, and came in second at the City of Palms.
“I have no idea if I’m gonna be in the dunk contest or not,” Allen said. “I sure hope so.”
