Rutgers' Next Point Guard?; NIA's Berry Decommits; Sajimi Gets Offers

The person who will play point guard next year for the Rutgers basketball team is likely not someone on the current roster.

With the graduation of Anthony Farmer, the Scarlet Knights must find someone else to be their floor general for next year. Having swung and missed on Vincent Council of The Patterson (N.C.) School because he opted for Providence, Rutgers is now looking at James Beatty, a 6-2, 195-pound point guard at Miami Dade College who is averaging 13.6 points. He is a native of Wilmington, N.C.

Cincinnati, Baylor, Providence and NEbraska are also reportedly involved with Beatty.

Miami Dade head coach Matt Eisele described Beatty in a text message like this: “Big time point guard. Has a great feel and is a tremendous leader. Very crafty. A lights out shooter.”

Miami Dade has become a pipeline to high-major programs. Forwards Will Coleman and Darnell Dodson are both committed to Memphis for next year.

BERRY DECOMMITS

Sean Berry, a 6-8, 275-pound F/C from the NIA Prep School in Newark has decommitted from Cal-State Fullerton and is now considering University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Howard, Norfolk State, St. Peter’s, FDU, Delaware State and High Point.

“Sean had a change of heart and wants to be at a school on the East Coast close to family and friends,” said Vincent Robinson, the AD at the NIA School.

Elsewhere, DePaul Catholic head coach Bart Fazio reports that 6-foot junior point guard Wally Sajimi holds offers from Temple and Iona.
