Eli Cain is a shooting guard at St. Benedict’s Prep who is receiving increasing interest and offers from Division 1 schools. He will be contributing periodically to ZAGSBLOG. Here’s his first entry:
What’s good, everybody?
My name is Eli Cain and I was born and raised in Willingboro, N.J., which is a small town in South Jersey.
Last year I attended Medford Tech High School in Medford, N.J., where my teammates and I had a great season but took a tough loss in the state finals. During the summer I play AAU ball with the best squad out, the New Jersey Playaz!
Before high school ball started this year I decided to transfer to St.Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J., and reclassify to the class of 2015. It was a very hard decision to make because of the family-like atmosphere that I had at Medford Tech, but I felt it was best for my future.
Before I reclassed I had offers from St. Joe’s, Temple, Drexel, Delaware, Rider and Binghamton. Since I made the move to reclass I’ve heard from a lot of high major schools like Seton Hall, Creighton, UVA, Notre Dame, Maryland and Texas Tech. On Monday, I was offered by Memphis.
I’m proud of the offers and attention I am currently getting but I am not satisfied. I am real big on loyalty. So I don’t get too excited about the achievements I accomplish because I still remember my freshman year when I got cut from making the JV squad and I was a nobody. I’m just working on every aspect of me on and off the court and trying to become a better player and person!
I leave you all with something from the rapper, J.Cole. “They only care about the kid when he’s a dunking a ball” See yall next time! #PlayazFamForLife
