Jennings to St. Thomas More

St. Thomas More coach Jere Quinn is losing Devin Ebanks, but likely gaining Danny Jennings.

The 6-foot-8, 240-pound Jennings, a Staten Island native, told me he will “most likely” attend the Connecticut prep school next season before heading to West Virginia in the fall of 2009.

“I think he’s going to, yes,” Quinn said Thursday by phone. “It looks like he’s coming. I know he wants to come. He came up and visited last week and after the visit he said, ‘I’d really like to come,’ and I said, ‘We’ll try and work it out for you.'”

Jennings, who also considered South Kent (Conn.) and Brewster Academy (N.H.), will likely receive financial aid.

Jennings, who played for Steve Smith at Oak Hill Academy last year, committed to West Virginia earlier this month.

“West Virginia — we are on the rise this year, next year, and the next couple of years,” Jennings told Jim Laise of WVsports.com. “We’re about to start a whole revolution.”

St. Thomas more has produced many top players in recent years, including Ebanks, who will be a freshman at West Virginia this year along with Kevin Jones of Mount Vernon, N.Y. and Darryl “Truck” Bryant, who starred at St. Raymond’s in the Bronx. Quinn previously coached former Rutgers and current Sacramento Kings standout Quincy Douby.

Quinn said 6-1 Bloomfield Tech guard Todd Fleming and 6-5 St. Benedict’s Prep small forward Anell Alexis would join Jennings at St. Thomas more.

“They’ve both had really good summers at camps,” the coach said.
