Brandon Austin to Oregon; Cam Biedscheid to Mizzou (UPDATED)

Providence transfer Brandon Austin is headed to Oregon.

“It’s just an all-around good situation for the kid,” Lonnie Lowry, Austin’s mentor and the brother of Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry, told SNY.tv.

“[He brings] the ability to do everything [on the court] and play at least three positions.”

After sitting out a year, he will be eligible next December and will have four years of eligibility remaining.

“We wish Brandon success with his basketball career and his academic future,” Providence coach Ed Cooley said in a statement when Austin opted to transfer.

Providence suspended both Austin and Rodney Bullock on Dec. 23 for violating Providence’s student Code of Conduct. The Providence Journal reported that no criminal charges were ever filed against either Austin or Bullock.

After initially committing to Penn State, the 6-foot-5 Austin decommitted and ultimately landed at Providence, picking them in November 2012. He scored 91 points in a game last May and could be a potent addition for Dana Altman’s club.

With the Austin transfer, Oregon is now out for Louisville transfer Chane Behanan, sources said.

BIEDSCHEID UNDECIDED

Former Notre Dame wing Cam Biedscheid will transfer to Missouri.

He Retweeted this tweet: “It’s official… @CamBiedscheid will transfer to Mizzou. He’s looking forward to a fresh start & a new opportunity! Headed to workout now!”

The 6-foot-7 Biedscheid, from St. Louis, played in all but one game last season, averaging 17 minutes and 6.2 points, but was redshirting this year for the Irish.
