When Louisville meets Rutgers on Wednesday at the Rutgers Athletic Center, two young and imposing big men will share the court for the first time since dominating the high school hardwood a year ago.
Louisville freshman Samardo Samuels and Rutgers freshman Greg Echenique teamed up last season to lead St. Benedict’s Prep of Newark to a 24-1 record and a No. 2 national ranking.
“Last year we had the two best 4 and 5 men in New Jersey, including Seton Hall and Rutgers,” St. Benedict’s coach Dan Hurley said of the 6-foot-8, 240-pound Samuels and the 6-9, 260-pound Echenique. “And those guys were just great players that just made teams want to quit because they were so big and strong and skilled.”
