Rysheed Jordan Returns for St. John’s (UPDATED)

Highly touted freshman guard Rysheed Jordan practiced with St. John’s on Monday and will play Tuesday night against Longwood. The news was previously reported Monday night by both SNY.tv and the Daily News.

The 6-foot-4 Jordan had been suspended for Friday’s game against Monmouth for a violation of team rules. He is averaging 4.3 points and 2.3 assists this season.

“Rysheed has a bright future at St. John’s. It is important that he takes care of his responsibilities as a student-athlete, on all fronts,” Johnnies coach Steve Lavin said in announcing that Jordan would play Tuesday.

Jordan’s fellow Philadelphia native, Providence freshman Brandon Austin  — along with teammate Rodney Bullock — have been suspended since the beginning of the season for  what the school called “not upholding their responsibilities as student-athletes.”

St. John’s (3-1) earlier suspended sophomore forward Chris Obekpa for two preseason games. D’Angelo Harrison was suspended for the end of last season, but returned for his junior year.
