Pitino: Ware Will Suit Up for Season-Opener

Kevin Ware will suit up for Saturday’s season-opener but it remains unclear if he will play.

“I don’t know if he will play but he will definitely be in the lineup,” Louisville coach Rick Pitino said on a conference call.

The reigning NCAA champion Cardinals host the College of Charleston.

That is great news for the reigning national champs, considering the Bronx native suffered a devastating leg injury just six months ago during the NCAA Tournament.

If he comes all the way back, Ware could be a key piece as the Cardinals seek to defend their NCAA championship.

The 6-foot-2 junior from The Bronx joins a core of returning players that includes fellow New Yorker Russ Smith, along with Luke Hancock, Montrezl Harrell, Wayne Blackshear and Stephan Van Treese.

Suspended forward Chane Behanan could also return to the team later this season, Pitino previously said.

Louisville also adds junior college point guard Chris Jones and several freshmen.
