Damon Wilson, a 6-foot-4 2015 left-handed point guard from Centereach (N.Y.) Our Savior New American, has verbally pledged to Pittsburgh.
The Powder Springs, Ga., native committed Monday night.
Wilson also held offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and Stanford, with interest from North Carolina, N.C. State, Louisville, Ohio State and UCLA.
“Damon wanted to play in the best conference in the country in the ACC for one of the best coaches in the country,” Our Savior coach Eric Jaklitsch said. “He will get to play with James Robinson, who will be a senior when he is a freshman, and also learn from former point guard and Big East Player of the Year, Brandin Knight. He also has a friend on the team in current Pitt freshman Mike Young.”
As for Wilson’s skillset, Jaklitsch said: “Damon is a pass-first type of guard. He could grow to almost 6-6 by the time he graduates in June of 2015 and enrolls at Pitt. Damon has a high basketball IQ, a pass-first mentality and a strong will to win. He can also get to the basket and score when he needs to . What is one of his biggest assets is that he is a lefty and is more difficult to defend.”
Wilson is PItt’s first 2015 commit.
For 2014, they have small forwards Sheldon Jeter and Ryan Luther.
