Stanley Johnson Enjoys USC, Remains Open

Stanley Johnson enjoyed his weekend visit to USC but now plans on taking a couple of weeks off before his next visit.

“It was good, it was good,” the 6-foot-6 Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wing told SNY.tv Sunday night. “They did their job. I had a great time on campus and seeing the team.

“They feel like I’m the missing piece to making the NCAA Tournament. They would use me at the 2, the 3, the 1 to bring it up. They’ll let me be me and I’m the only 3 that they have on the roster. They would let me play my style of play, let me play how I know how to play.”

Johnson has a final five of Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Oregon and USC and said he won’t take any future visits until after Thanksgiving.

At that point, he may visit Florida or Oregon.

“For now, I’m taking two weeks off from visits because I start high school practice,” he said. “Then Oregon or Florida, whichever one comes first.”

Johnson dismissed rumors that he is no longer considering Kentucky.

“I don’t know what person would think I’m not feeling Kentucky,” he said. “That doesn’t make any sense to me.”

Johnson visited Kentucky last month for “Big Blue Madness” and was a top target of head coach John Calipari all summer.

“I really enjoy Coach Cal,” Johnson said. “People try to shoot him down but he’s a really great guy. Being at school, at practice, it was good to see on my official.”

Arizona also remains strongly in the mix.

“[Coach] Sean Miller has recruited me forever, I know him really, really well,” Johnson said. “I really like him.”

Johnson sounds as though it’s still a tough decision for him to make.

“It really is close as a person going through recruitment,” he said. “They’re doing a great job recruiting me. Both schools [Kentucky and Arizona] are.”

Still, he probably won’t announce until January, meaning a late-signing.

“That’s true,” he said. “I’m not really into decision-mode at this point.”
