HARTFORD, Conn. — I left NYC early this morning and risked life and limb driving through the snow up here to Hartford for the Seton Hall-UConn game. Apparently they haven’t heard of snowplows in this state yet, since Route 84 is a snow-filled adventure.
Anyway, I’m covering the game and will then head tonight to Springfield, Mass. for the Hoophall Classic. Four games are being televised Monday on ESPNU, including tilts featuring St. Anthony, St. Benedict’s and Lincoln. Both St. Anthony (to Plainfield) and Lincoln (to Jamesville-DeWitt) lost on Saturday night.
In the meantime, here are some notes from this game.
Four high school teams from the Hoophall Classic made the trip down Route 91 for the game: Mater Dei (Calif.), South Atlanta (Ga.), Lincoln (N.Y.) and Mount Vernon (N.Y.)…Jarrid Famous, a 6-11 center from Westchester Community College, is expected to attend the game. Famous is being courted by both UConn and Seton Hall, as well as New Mexico, DePaul, West Virginia, Missouri and others….Seton Hall assistant Scott Adubato watched Quincy Hankins of Polk (Fla.) Community College drop 24 points on St. Petersburg Saturday in Winter Haven, Fla….Dermon Player, another Seton Hall assistant, is flying to Seattle to check out 6-5 sophomore shooting guard Tony Wroten of Seattle (Wash.) Garfield. Wroten (pictured above) is considering Louisville, Syracuse, Villanova, Memphis, Maryland, Seton Hall and Washington, according to an interview he gave last summer with Alex Schwartz.
