Kansas Hosts Oubre, Alexander, Pope

This will be a huge weekend at Kansas as the Jayhawks host Kelly Oubre beginning today and Cliff Alexander and Malik Pope on Friday for “Late Night in the Phog.”

The 6-foot-6 Oubre out of Findlay Prep appears to be deciding between Kansas and Kentucky and will also visit Kentucky Oct. 18 for Big Blue Madness.

“It’s all about fit, all about vision for my son, also about him having a chance to display his talents, and I hold those schools in high regard,” Kelly Oubre Sr. told the Courier-Journal. “I deal directly with them. At this point, Kansas and Kentucky are pretty much on a level playing field. … Kansas and Kentucky have piqued Kelly’s interest as potential landing spots.”

The 6-9 Alexander out of Chicago Curie is coming off a trip to Jakarta, Indonesia with the USA 3X3 team and will visit Kansas, Memphis and Illinois this month after already having visited DePaul and Arizona.

He has long spoken highly of Kansas and his relationship with assistant coach Jerrance Howard, and Alexander is a major priority for coach Bill Self’s staff.

“I been knowing coach Howard since he was at Illinois,” Alexander said recently. “He’s the guy that offered me my first scholarship so  I love him for that.”

Kansas is also in the mix for bigs Myles Turner and Jahlil Okafor.

The 6-11 Turner was slated to visit Kansas this weekend but that will be rescheduled because he will participate this weekend in the Team USA development mini-camp.

Meantime, the 6-10 Okafor is slated to visit Kansas Oct. 18 along with his running buddy Tyus Jones.

Pope is6-8 small forward from Laguna Creek High in Elk Grove, Calif.
