Nairn Enjoys Minnesota, Oklahoma Up Next

Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn took the first of his three official visits this weekend to Minnesota and said he had a great time.

“I didn’t know what to expect going up there but I went on an official, got a chance to see the school, got a chance to see a lot of people there,” Nairn told SNY.tv Saturday. “I had a good time, it was cool.”

The 5-foot-10 Nairn out of Bel Aire (KS) Sunrise Christian saw the Gophers football team beat UNLV, 51-23, on Thursday at TCF Bank Stadium.

“I watched that, it was pretty cool,” he said.

Minnesota coach Richard Pitino told Nairn he was a top priority at the point. Minnesota is also in the mix for Minnesota native Tyus Jones, who is planning on attending college with Chicago big man Jahlil Okafor. Okafor doesn’t have Minnesota on his list. (Jones and Okafor tripped together to Baylor this weekend.)

“I think they want me bad,” Nairn said of Minnesota. “[Pitino] told me I’m his No. 1 recruit and showed me stuff how I can fit in their offense, being a pick-and-roll guy, playing uptempo, pushing the ball and stuff like that.”

Nairn said Pitino talked about how he’s also recruiting Minnesota natives Rashad Vaughn and Reid Travis. Along with Jones, they form the “Big 3” among Minnesota’s elite recruits.

“He said they were good kids,” Nairn said.

Next up for Nairn are trips to Oklahoma and then Indiana.

“I go to Oklahoma next week on the 6th and then I go to Indiana the 20th of September,” he said.

As for Oklahoma he said, “I’m going there open-minded, just like I went to Minnesota. I don’t know what to expect.”

He has no timeframe on a decision and will announce when he’s ready.

“I don’t have a certain time that I want to decide,” he said. “But if it’s after the visits, maybe I’ll take a week to think about it.

“Whenever I feel the time is right.”
