Patterson (NC) School head coach Chris Chaney says 6–4 wing DeAndre Kane remains committed to Seton Hall despite conflicting media reports.
“He told me he is committed right now to Seton Hall,” Chaney wrote Monday in a text message.
Kane had previously told his hometown Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he was “open.”
“I’ll probably wait until April to decide,” Kane told the paper.
Kane told the Gazette he was also considering Marquette and Pitt, but that Pitt hadn’t contacted him much.
“I want to stay home, but Pitt doesn’t contact me a lot. I don’t talk to them a lot, like I do the other schools,” Kane said. “I don’t know how much they want me.”
Pitt is still interested in Kane and my guess is we won’t know the final answer on this until the spring signing period. If Kane comes to Seton Hall, he could form a nice nucleus in the backcourt next year with transfer Keon Lawrence as well as Jordan Theodore, Eugene Harvey, Jeremy Hazell and Robert Mitchell.
Seton Hall will also add transfer Herb Pope up front but will need to add another big man, especially if John Garcia leaves school after this year.
Garcia has been bothered by knee problems, but should be good to go Sunday at UConn.
The Pirates are also involved with several JUCO big men, including 6–8 Quincy Hankins of Polk (Fla.) Community College, and 6–11 Jarrid Famous of Westchester Community College.
Famous was recently named to the All-Tournament team at the College of Southern Idaho tournament, where he posted 32 points, 23 rebounds and 5 blocks against Treasure Valley. He averaged 25 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks for the event.
Finally, Memphis transfer Jeff Robinson is expected to join Seton Hall for the second semester if the school accepts his transferable credits. If that happens, he would be able to suit up for the second semester of the 2009-10 season.

Hey Adam thanks a lot for the good news and update. I really feel if we land Kane and one of the JuCo big guys we could really make some noise in the Big East nest year. We would have a full roster with some really good talent coming back. I am excited about next year and I was just wondering if you think SHU could finish in the top 8 or even top 5 in the big east next year. Thanks keep up the good work.

If all those guys stick around and suit up, and if Oliver returns, and if they land Famous and/or Hankins, there is a lot of potential upside.
Problem is, this league is so deep and so talented that it’s hard to make dramatic movement from year to year. UConn, Pitt, Louisville, Georgetown, Syracuse, etc. will lose some players, but they aren’t going to suddenly fall off the map. Still, Seton Hall clearly has some exciting pieces in the works here with Lawrence, Pope, Hazell, Kane. They definitely need at least one, if not two, big rebounders to help on the glass in the Brutal Big East.
