2014 Big Man Myles Turner Plans to Sign Late

NEW YORK — Myles Turner says he plans to verbally commit to college in “January or February” and won’t sign until the late signing period.

“I’m going to probably verbally commit somewhere late school season but I’m not going to sign a Letter of Intent until the late signing period,” the 6-foot-11 Turner out of Euless (TX) Trinity told SNY.tv in the above video Friday at the Big Strick Classic. “Maybe like January, February. I don’t want to hold everything for too long, bring too much drama into it.”

Turner, who looks like a future NBA lottery pick, recently cut his list to eight schools: Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Arizona, Ohio State, Texas and Oklahoma State.

As of now, his only official visit is to Kansas for “Late Night in the Phog” Oct. 4.

“They’ve produced a lot of top-notch big men in the league,” he said of Kansas. “For the past four or five years, they’ve been putting bigs in the league.”

He will also hold in-home visits with several schools and as of now will host Texas and Duke in mid-September.

“Probably Duke and Texas, those are the only two I have set up right now,” he said.

Turner may cut his list to three at some point after taking his official visits.

“That’s still up for grabs, I’m going to definitely take all my visits,” he said. “If I can, take as many visits as I can.”

Turner has discussed potentially packaging with fellow Texas star Emmanuel Mudiay, a point guard who is considering Kentucky, Kansas, SMU, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

“As far as playing together, I’m going to go somewhere that best suits me,” he said. “If that’s with Eman, that would be awesome. A package deal at this point I couldn’t say it’s 100 percent but if we can go to school together that would be awesome.”
