Perkins to Announce Saturday; All Signs Point to Gonzaga

Huntington (W.V.) Prep point guard Josh Perkins will announce his college choice on Saturday in Colorado and all signs point to him landing at Gonzaga, multiple sources close to the recruitment told SNY.tv.

Perkins had initially listed a five of Gonzaga, UCLA, Minnesota, UConn and Kentucky.

Kentucky never offered the 6-foot-2 point guard, and he never ended up taking a visit to UConn.

Meantime, Minnesota is focusing its efforts on Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn, who is also considering Oklahoma and Indiana.

UCLA, which will have an immediate need at point guard next season, will soon get an official visit (Aug. 31) from former Louisville commit Quentin Snider, who is also considering UConn (Sept 20).

Kentucky has now offered three 2014 point guards in Tyus Jones, Emmanuel Mudiay and Tyler Ulis.

Ulis will take an official visit to Kentucky Sept. 9 for the Alumni Game, Jones visits Sept. 27 and Mudiay visits Oct. 18.

Jones and Mudiay will be play this weekend in the Elite 24 game in Brooklyn.

Meantime, Gonzaga coach Mark Few was on Perkins all summer, and it didn’t go unnoticed.

“Gonzaga has been there from day one,” Randy Perkins told SNY.tv this summer. “There’s something to be said for being there from day one. When Josh is interviewed the first thing out of his mouth is he wants a coach to be there both on and off the court for him. For that, Gonzaga rates really high.”

“Coach Few’s been there since day one. He’s at every game. Josh is really excited when he sees the head coach there.”
