Carolina Offers Johnson; Duke Offers Dorsey

Two ACC powerhouses extended offers to guards Monday night.

North Carolina offered 2014 Chesterfield (Va.) Benedictine combo guard Robert Johnson, and Duke offered 2015 Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco point guard Tyler Dorsey.

“[North Carolina] said they’re looking to add a shooter so that’s somewhere I think I could play,” the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Johnson told SNY.tv. The offer was first reported by Scout.com.

Johnson noticed that Carolina head coach Roy Williams and members of the Carolina staff tracked him at the recent Nike Global Challenge and in Orlando at AAU Nationals.

“The assistants have been at my games and Coach Williams said he was coming soon as he [got]” to the Global Challenge, Johnson said.

He is also considering Indiana, Marquette, Florida State, Wake Forest, Villanova, Alabama, Georgetown, Virginia, Pittsburgh and West Virginia, among others.

“After July I will cut my list to 10 most likely,” he said.

No official visits are currently planned.

TYLER-DORSEY_4_23_150As for the 6-4 Dorsey, he adds the Duke offer after a very impressive July period.

“I just spoke to him,” St. John Bosco coach Derrick Taylor told SNY.tv. “He is really excited by the offer. Tyler and his family are aware of how selective the Blue Devils are.”

If the Blue Devils land the Tyus Jones/Jahlil Okafor package and they only spend one year on campus, Dorsey could be an option to replace Jones should he go pro.
