Knicks Announce Martin Re-Signing

The Knicks on Thursday officially announced that they have re-signed forward Kenyon Martin.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Yahoo! reported Martin got a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum of $1.4 million.

“Kenyon did a fantastic job for us once he signed in February,” Knicks GM Glen Grunwald said. “He strengthened our frontline going into an important stretch of the season with some very impressive performances. We are happy to have him back.”

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Martin averaged 7.2 points and 5.3 rebounds over 23.9 minutes last season.

Head coach Mike Woodson now has six frontcourt players to work into a rotation in Tyson Chandler, Martin, Carmelo Anthony, Metta World Peace, Andrea Bargnani and Amar’e Stoudemire.

Stoudemire is expected to be on a minutes-restriction because of his knee issues, but Woodson will now have decisions to make including who starts alongside Anthony and Chandler in the frontcourt.

If World Peace starts at the three, it will allow Anthony to play the four, where he and the Knicks had their most success last season.

There could also be a logjam at the four with Anthony, Bargnani and Stoudemire all requiring minutes.
