  • UConn forward Liam McNeeley is set to return against St. John’s

    BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ

The No. 19 UConn Huskies will get a major boost against a red-hot St. John’s team on Friday.

Liam McNeeley has been away from action since Jan. 1 with a high ankle sprain but is expected to return on a minutes restriction, head coach Dan Hurley told reporters Thursday.

A projected first-round pick he was averaging was averaging 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists before injuring the ankle Dec. 1 at DePaul.

A dozen NBA scouts are expected to be in attendance for McNeeley’s return in this BIG EAST clash. RJ Luis, Alex Karaban, Solo Ball, and Kadary Richmond are also expected to attract attention from scouts.

Richmond and St. John’s have won nine straight and 14 of 15 entering what some are calling the “Game of the Year” in the Big East.
