WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Kentucky’s John Calipari, Indiana’s Mike Woodson and Nate Oats headlined the NY Coaches Clinic at Archbishop Stepinac High School on Wednesday.
And while the coaches all enjoyed speaking before the more than 150 coaches in attendance, they came for another reason, too.
Boogie Fland is a highly sought after point guard ranked No. 18 in the Class of 2024 by ESPN.
Fland took an official visit to Kentucky this past weekend and then had a home visit with Woodson on Tuesday night ahead of the clinic. He is slated to visit Alabama (Sept. 22) and Maryland (Sept. 29) later this month.
“When you have really good players, like the likes of Boogie and Danny [Carbuccia] and many others, coaches want to come to the area to recruit your players and then this is a recruitable day, so in putting the clinic together around them coming to recruit your student-athletes is a testament to the type of kids we have here, Boogie and Danny being two of them,” Stepinac coach Pat Massaroni told ZAGSBLOG.

Fland visited North Carolina, Michigan and Indiana officially in the spring and summer and UConn and St. John’s unofficially. His most recent visit was to Kentucky last weekend.
“I think the Kentucky visit in speaking to him this past weekend went really well,” Massaroni said. “He’s had great visits dating back to UNC, Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky. Two more lined up with Alabama and Maryland to end the month. He’s a great experience being able to capture some potential information, look and see what the roster makeup is going to be, the style of play, how he fits at the next level and hopefully beyond.”
Woodson had a home visit on Tuesday and then spoke at the clinic Wednesday morning.
“He thought the Indiana home visit went great, continuing his relationship with Coach Woodson and his staff,” Massaroni said. “Had a really good visit there in June and building on making a decision on where he wants to go play at the next level and all of this information he’s garnering, and his parents and his inner circle, will hopefully allow him to make the right decision going forward in the coming months.

Alabama’s Oats and assistant Preston Murphy were also on hand on Wednesday. After the clinic, Oats flew out to Atlanta to meet with the family of 2024 big man Aiden Sherrell while Murphy stayed at the Stepinac open gym.

“They want me at their school, they want me to come visit,” Fland told me at Peach Jam when he played with the PSA Cardinals. “As soon as possible, I will try to go out there, coupled with some other visits.”
Michigan assistant Saadi Washington was also on hand for Fland on Wednesday.
