The two WCC heavyweights went head to head on Tuesday night in a matchup that asserted Gonzaga, once again, as the top dog of the conference.
Gonzaga and St. Mary’s had split the regular season series with St. Mary’s winning the first matchup 78-70. The Bulldogs then took the regular season finale on their home floor 77-68 in a game they never trailed and dominated again Tuesday night in the championship, winning 77-51.
Drew Timme starred again dropping 18 points and grabbing six rebounds en route to his fourth WCC ring in four years.
“It’s a great feeling, man,” Timme said on ESPN postgame. “Not bad for a two-seed you know, it’s a great feeling, can’t complain too much.”
Timme also broke the All-time Gonzaga scoring record Tuesday night. “I can’t describe it, man, it’s been one helluva ride.”
Gonzaga were projected as a 3-seed in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology but could vault into the 2-spot with the Power 5 conferences yet to finish their tournaments.
