No. 1 Houston escapes Memphis on wild buzzer beater

By CHARLIE PARENT

No. 1 Houston survived a huge road test on Sunday as they took down Memphis 67-65 on a buzzer-beater from junior guard Jamal Shead.

Shead had team-highs in both points (16) and assists (7).

The Cougars finish the regular season at 29-2 (15-1 AAC), and virtually wrapped up a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament thanks to Shead’s heroics.

Memphis (23-8, 13-5 AAC) are listed as an 9-seed in Joe Lunardi’s recent bracketology but could fall a spot after the loss. The Tigers will hold the No. 2 seed in the AAC Tournament.
