Tennessee starting point guard Zakai Ziegler will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL, the team announced Wednesday.
He suffered the injury just minutes into the Vols’ 75-57 win over Arkansas on Tuesday.
The New York native, who is in his second season at Tennessee, was a Naismith Defensive Player of the Year semifinalist and Tennessee’s second leading scorer with 10.7 points per game. He also ranks top-30 in the country in assists with 5.4 per game.
The Vols’ will now play point guard by “committee” between Josiah-Jordan James and Jahmai Mashack head coach Rick Barnes said.
Tennessee (22-8, 11-6 SEC) currently holds the No. 4 position in the SEC standings and were placed as a No. 3 seed in Joe Lunardi’s recent bracketology.
They travel to Auburn for their final regular season game on Saturday.
