UConn’s Andre Jackson, Jordan Hawkins expected to return from injuries Friday

By ADAM ZAGORIA

UConn guards Andre Jackson and Jordan Hawkins are expected to return from injuries Friday night when the No. 25 Huskies host UNC-Wilmington, a source said.

The 6-foot-5 Hawkins, a sophomore guard, has been out since Nov. 7 with a concussion.

“Without any setbacks, it looks good for Jordan,” coach Dan Hurley told reporters Thursday. “We’ll see how he’s feeling (Friday). He practiced, that was the last checkpoint. He’s (not definitely) in, but it looks good for him.”

Jackson, a 6-6 junior, fractured his right pinky in practice last month and will be listed as a “gametime decision.” The source said he could “potentially” play.

“Not game time, more like gameday, based on how he’s feeling,” Hurley said. “He hasn’t had the runway that Jordan has had, in terms of getting on the court.”

UConn (3-0) had a good practice with both players there Thursday.

“This was the best practice that we’ve had, with all due respect,” Hurley said. “Just bringing two guys of that caliber back in, everything revved up. The energy level, the competition. It was good.”

“Seeing the joy that they play with, and the adrenaline boost for us going into (Friday), I’m super-happy they’re back,” freshman forward Alex Karaban added. “I love both of those guys, I love playing with them. Can’t wait for them to come back.”

The Huskies host Delaware State Sunday before traveling to Oregon for the Knight Invitational where they will face Oregon Thursday and Alabama or Michigan State Friday.
