Providence coach Ed Cooley added to his recruiting class for 2023 when 6-foot-8 small forward Donovan Santoro of Southern California Academy committed to the Friars on Friday.
He also visited Washington State and San Jose State and held offers from Creighton, Ole Miss and Washington.
“I will be taking my talents to Providence University,” he said. “I chose them for many different reasons but the main factors were their amazing coaching staff, their success as a program, and because I feel like this decision will be able to give me more opportunity to make it to the NBA.”
2023 Donovan Santoro 6’8+ Wing Southern California Academy literally went from being unheard of to popping on Head Coaches desk as a guy you must recruit. His size for position & versatility is what makes him most intriguing. He’s a floor spacer that can bounce it & create. pic.twitter.com/EuhMAhpvp6

He added: “My role will be to play as a big wing and cause mismatches on both ends of the floor.
“By being at Providence, I will be surrounded by the best hoopers and hooping staff in college basketball, so I think being in the position will push me to be the best I can be and learning every day.”
He joins shooting guard Garway Dual and Santoro’s Southern California Academy teammate Drew Fielder in Providence’s 2023 class.
“With Donovan being 6’8 and being able to create his own shot off the bounce, his upside is extremely high,” said Southern California Academy coach Julius von Hanzlik. “You can plug him in on any team because he’s a floor spacer. He knocks down 3’s from deep.”
