Class of 2023 forward Keanu Dawes commits to Rice

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Keanu Dawes, the 6-foot-9 forward from Houston (TX) Stratford, is headed to Rice University.

Ranked the No. 27 power forward in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports.com, he chose Rice and coach Scott Pera over Utah, Texas A&M and BYU.

“I will be going to Rice,” he told ZAGSBLOG ahead of his public announcement.

“I just feel like they will help develop me and get me to the league with the plan they have better than anyone else. Their message is that I can come in and make an immediate impact and play right anyway and help do some pretty big things that the school hasn’t done before.”

Dawes is Rice’s first commit in 2023.

“As a player at 6’9 and still growing he’s hasn’t reached his ceiling,” said his AAU coach Jeremy Peters. “His skillset is dribble, pass and shoot.”
