DePaul head coach Tony Stubblefield announced Monday that Eral Penn has joined the program as a graduate transfer. Penn heads to Chicago to play in the 2022-23 season after averaging 17.1 points and 7.4 rebounds last season at Long Island.
“Eral’s production will be a great asset for us this upcoming season,” said Stubblefield. “Like Umoja Gibson and Caleb Murphy, he’s a player that has multiple years of experience at the Division I level and it will allow him to quickly get up to speed in our system and be an immediate contributor. He will also add more depth to our roster and we look forward to Eral joining us in Lincoln Park.”
Penn played in 108 games over his four seasons at LIU and holds career averages of 9.6 points and 5.7 rebounds. Over his final two seasons that included 47 games, the Brooklyn, N.Y. native averaged 16.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest.
He earned multiple honors following the 2021-22 season after averaging 17.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game including NABC All-District recognition and first team All-NEC honors. The 2020-21 campaign saw Penn average a double-double with 15.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
Penn joins five other newcomers including transfers Gibson (Oklahoma) and Murphy (USF) along with junior college transfers Da’Sean Nelson and KT Raimey and incoming freshman Zion Cruz.
