CHICAGO — Leonard Miller did not really break out this week at the NBA Draft Combine, and ESPN analyst Bobby Marks believes he is best suited for the NBA G League Ignite.
In his first game at the Combine Thursday, the 6-foot-11 left-handed Class of 2022 big man from Fort Erie International Academy in Ontario had 6 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists and was a -3 as his team lost 100-81. In his second game, Miller had 9 points and 5 rebounds in his team’s loss.
“The G League Ignite for him would probably be the perfect option as far as from a developmental standpoint because he’s so raw,” ESPN’s Bobby Marks said Friday on air. “And if you go to one of these other schools, you might just be one of the other guys from a developmental standpoint. He’s the guy for me that has probably not done enough to get himself in the first round.”
Miller visited the NBA G League Ignite facilities in Walnut Creek, Calif. last month and also visited Kentucky and Arizona.
Miller, 18, is currently projected as the No. 37 pick in the June 23 NBA Draft, per ESPN.com.
“I think Leonard Miller has unlimited upside,” Fort Erie coach Charles Hantoumakos previously told ZAGSBLOG. “There’s nothing he can’t do, shoot, pass, handle, rebound, guard.
“He has an insatiable work ethic and is as coachable as they come. That is why he has, and will continue to ascend for years to come.”
As far as his future goals, Miller told on3.com he will choose his next step with an eye toward eventually reaching the NBA.
“It just comes down to me having the best feeling of if it’s the right place for me to reach my dreams,” he said. “Really wherever is the best place for me to maximize the outcome.”
