Illinois adds Texas Tech transfer Terrence Shannon Jr.

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Ex-Texas Tech star Terrence Shannon is on the move to Illinois.

The 6-foot-6 junior averaged 10.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists this season for the Red Raiders, who lost to Duke in the Sweet 16.

He is a major addition for coach Brad Underwood and his staff, who saw Andre Curbelo transfer to St. John’s and Kofi Cockburn declare for the NBA Draft.

Illinois also brings in point guard Skyy Clark and Jayden Epps, shooting guard Sencire Harris and small forward Ty Rodgers.

Shannon had visited Michigan and been linked to the Wolverines but Michigan big man Hunter Dickinson Tweeted that Texas Tech coach Mark Adams prevented Shannon from taking summer classes that would have allowed him to graduate before transferring. Dickinson has since deleted the Tweets.

Shannon chose the Red Raiders after decommitting from DePaul in 2018. He was also considering Florida State, Georgetown and Illinois at the time.
