Miami coach Jim Larranaga added another impact transfer Tuesday with the addition of Arkansas State transfer Norchad Omier, the Sun Belt Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
He also considered Florida State, Texas Tech and Georgetown.
The 6-foot-7 native of Nicaragua with Miami ties averaged 17.9 points and 12.2 rebounds last season including a 35-point, 13-rebound outing.
“Ever since I got to Miami from Nicaragua I always knew about the great University of Miami program,” Omier said on The Field of 68 via the Miami Herald. “Being the first do something from your country makes me proud and happy, makes my parents proud, my last name. It feels good, showing people that Nicaragua has talent.”
Omier joins All-Big 12 guard Nijel Pack, a Kansas State transfer who chose Miami on Saturday over Ohio State and Purdue. The 6-foot Pack averaged 17.4 points and 3.8 rebounds as a sophomore.
