WESTFIELD, IN — Aaron Clark showed his ability to create, hit timely shots and also displayed unique versatility on both ends of the floor during Friday’s opening of this weekend’s Nike EYBL Session 1 at the Pacers Athletic Center.
He performed in front of a jam-packed crowd that included UConn assistant Luke Murray, new UMass head coach Frank Martin and several other coaches who are currently in active pursuit of the NY Rens’ Class of 2023, 6-foot-6 off guard.
“Iowa and UConn, I’ve been talking to them both lately,” said Clark, who holds offers from the likes of Auburn, St. John’s, Rutgers, Seton Hall, UMass, and numerous others.
He cited team basketball and togetherness as bedrock tenets of the NY Rens and what will lead to success this season under head coach Andy Borman, who has groomed a torrent of talent during his time with the program.
Seton Hall has re-offered Clark under new head coach Shaheen Holloway.
Holloway also offered the four star prospect at Saint Peter’s, where Holloway’s unprecedented 2022 NCAA tournament run quickly altered the perception of the program.
Clark paced the Rens with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting (3-for-7 shooting) during an 85-69 loss to the Georgia Stars on Friday.
Clark was an integral component in everything the Rens did. He was able to guard multiple positions, float up lob passes around the rim, and get into the teeth of the defense and finish.
Maryland and Georgetown recently offered the 6-foot-6 left handed high scoring guard. He holds offers from St. John’s, Marquette, TCU, UMass, Rutgers, Auburn, Washington, Xavier, and a barrage of others.
Clark said the fluid ball movement and the rapport he’s developed in the backcourt with Ty-laur Johnson, another high major guard with the Rens, has been integral in his development this off season.
Michigan continues to make Clark’s NY Rens teammate, 6-foot-10 and 225-pound Papa Kante a priority. While he holds offers from Maryland, Kansas, Providence, Iowa, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, TCU and others, Michigan has been in active pursuit of Kante from the very beginning.Kante showed his instinctive style and legitimate interior scoring on Friday, soaring in for an extravagant dunk off a lob from Clark and turning in a traditional 3-point play against the Georgia Stars.
The unique mismatch threat had five offensive boards during the first half and showed his defensive versatility, guarding the rim and locking up on ball handlers as Michigan assistant coach Saddi Washington looked on Friday night.
