Iona lands 7-foot Our Savior Lutheran big man Silas Sunday

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Silas Sunday, the 7-foot, 285-pound Class of 2022 big man from Our Savior Lutheran and the NY Lightning Nike EYBL squad, committed to Iona and coach Rick Pitino on Monday.

UMass, Hofstra, Pacific and Oregon State were also involved.

“I’ll be taking my talents to Iona, it’s close to home,” the New York City native said.

“I’ll be bringing my scoring rebounding and passing ability to the school.”

Sunday was born in Italy to a father from Nigeria and a mother from Poland and was raised in Ireland. He now lives in The Bronx.

Sunday will join his Our Saviour Lutheran teammate Sadiku Ayo, who committed in September.

“It’s going to be great and fun playing with Sadiku, someone who plays hard and is a natural leader,” Sunday said.

“They will be great together,” said Lightning coach Dana Dingle. “They have been best friends at OSL the last four years and work will together and push one another to be great.”
