By JACOB POLACHECK

CHICAGO – Duke signee and Montverde (FL) Academy forward Dariq Whitehead took home MVP honors at Tuesday’s McDonald’s All-American en route to the East Team’s dominant 105-81 win over the West at Wintrust Arena.

Whitehead, the 6-foot-6, 190-pound small forward, finished with 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting, while adding seven rebounds and seven assists.

“This one is definitely special because this is one I’m going to remember forever, just knowing that there’s a lot of great guys a lot of guys who are going to be pros,” he said postgame. “And I came here and I got MVP is something I’ll never forget.

“I feel like coming into the game we took that serious, they beat us in a scrimmage and so we wanted to come back an don’t lose twice and that’s something we talked about for days prior to this game just come out and make sure we beat them and if we can beat the by 20 plus do so and that’s what we did.”

Duke signee and Sunrise Christian (KS) small forward Mark Mitchell finished with a game-high 19 points in the loss.
