Jon Scheyer and Duke added to their No. 1 recruiting class on Tuesday when they landed a verbal pledge from 7-foot-1, 235-pound Oak Hill Academy big man Christian Reeves.
Rated a three-star big man by 247Sports.com, he also considered South Carolina and Minnesota. He plans to redshirt next season and begin playing in 2023. That is when his Oak Hill teammate Caleb Foster, a five-star guard, will enroll at Duke.
“Duke is a great school for basketball and academics,” he said. “I’ll go against the best players every day in practice. I’ll also have the best coaches and trainers around me to help me be successful. My strongest skills are running the floor, rebounding, blocking shots and finishing around the rim.”
Reeves joins a loaded Duke recruiting class that features five-stars Dereck Lively, Dariq Whitehead, Kyle Filipowski, Mark Mitchell and four-star guard Jaden Schutt.
“Christian runs the floor exceptionally well for a seven-footer, has great hands, can score in the low post with both hands, and rebounds the ball on both ends of the floor,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said. “He can shoot it to 17 feet and is an excellent passer. His best basketball is in front of him as he gets stronger and adds a few pounds”
