Sadiku Ibine Ayo , the 6-foot-5 wing from Our Savior Lutheran and the New Heights Lightning AAU program, committed to Iona Wednesday following an official visit last weekend.
“It felt like home and where I belong,” he said.
He also held offers from Seton Hall, St. John’s and Auburn, among others.
“Sadiku is the most unselfish and underrated player ever to come through our Lightning program,” said coach Shandue McNeil. “He’s one of the best 2-way players in the country.”
A strong, physical 2-way player, Ayo competed at the Peach Jam this summer, helping to lead the Lightning to the quarterfinals.
Under coach Rick Pitino, he should continue to improve and develop and could prove to be a major steal for the MAAC program.
His Our Savior and Lightning teammate, Jaquan Sanders, committed to St. John’s two weeks ago.
