Jayden Pierre, the 6-foot-1 point guard from Long Island Lutheran and Team Rio, committed to Providence Sunday night.
He also considered Minnesota and Xavier.
“Something that really stands out is the experience of their staff and their history with players at my position,” he said. “I feel like they are really good with point guards and know what it takes to get them to the next level. While on the visit, the family feel that the team had was something that I enjoyed. How together everyone was, from the staff to the players.”
As for what skillset he will bring, he said: “Iām ready to bring in my leadership skills along with my floor general skills. Also , I feel like I win everywhere I go, so I will be bringing in my winning attitude and work ethic.”
Team Rio coach Mike Rice, the former Rutgers head coach, said of Pierre: “JP can truly do it all. A throwback to when point guards used to make everyone around them better. Excellent finishing package and one of the most competitive defensive guards I have ever coached. Never gets outworked.”
Said LuHi coach John Buck: “Jayden projects to be an excellent lead guard at the next level. He can both score the ball and crest open shots for teammates. He competes every time he steps on the floor, is coachable, and is a great teammate. I love how he defends as well.”
He joins point guard Quante Berry in Providence’s 2022 class.
