Malik Reneau is staying in-state for college.
The 6-foot-8 1/2, 227-pound forward from Montverde (FL) Academy and the Nightrydas AAU program committed to Florida on Wednesday, choosing the Gators over Memphis, Miami and Florida State.
“I will be going to the University of Florida,” he said during his commitment with On3recruits.
“[Their message] is just being a versatile forward that can come off screens, play in the post, inside/outside type of player,” the Florida native told ZAGSBLOG recently of Florida. “[It’s a] great campus, everything is pretty close, easy to access, all that type of stuff. The coaching staff was great.”
He is ranked the No. 6 power forward in the Class of 2022 per 247Sports.com and is Florida’s first 2022 commit.
“He’s one of the most improved players I’ve had the pleasure to coach in over 30 years ,” Montverde coach Kevin Boyle said. “He is the most fundamental 4-5 in America and will be a great college player.”
He added: “He’s got to get a little stronger, a little more nasty but he’s a very skilled player. He’s a great kid and a great student.”
Said Nightyrdas director Kenoe Jordan: “Malik is a hard worker and has a ton of upside. He is very coachable and has taken big steps to improve his game and body over the years. I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to grow as a young man and player and it was a blessing to have him in my program.”
