Hey Everyone, Ja’Kobe “Wubbs” Walter checking in for the first time. I’m excited to get this started and I thank y’all for tuning in.
This summer has been crazy. I’ve experienced going on three visits, playing up 17U with Team Trae Young and finally being able to be contacted by coaches.
The day that coaches were allowed to call and text me, June 15, was the most humbling day of the summer. My phone started ringing as soon as it hit midnight with coach Ulric (Maligi) from Texas being the first to call and my last call being coach from (Wade) Mason at Georgia at 2 a.m. I still keep in contact with all coaches that have offered and shown interest in me.
Now getting into my visits. My first visit was to Oklahoma and I had a great time. Coach (Porter) Moser and the staff showed me around the campus and basketball facility. The best part about the visit was watching film and coach Moser giving me some more basketball knowledge.
My second visit was to SMU. Coach Yaphett (King) showed me around the beautiful campus and spoke to me about life after basketball. I watched the team practice and really enjoyed seeing them compete to end my visit.
My last visit of the summer was to the national champs, Baylor University. Coach (Scott) Drew and the staff let me watch the team work out and compete in all types of drills. The coaches gave me tips on NBA interviews and more. It was a great experience at BU.
The whole summer was crazy, but nothing stood out more to me than how much my recruitment went up playing with Team Trae Young 17U. We went to places like Florida, Texas, Alabama, Nebraska, And Georgia. It was great playing with and against the top 2022’s in the country and I really think it helped me become a better basketball player. We didn’t complete our end goal of winning the 3SSB championship but we did a lot of great things throughout the year.
Finishing up the summer, I now have 17 offers and I’m working on scheduling five official visits for my junior year. My family and I are really enjoying the recruitment process and can’t wait to see what’s ahead.
Now it’s time to focus on school and school ball. I will check back in soon! Wubbs signing out.
