Four-star shooting guard Jaden Schutt updates recruitment after recent offers from Duke, Florida

By ADAM ZAGORIA

It’s been quite the summer so far for Jaden Schutt.

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound four-star shooting guard from Yorkville (IL) Christian helped lead his Illinois Wolves team to the Under Armour Association championship and picked up offers from Duke and Florida to go with his previous offers.

Then last week he showed out at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, impressing coaches with his shooting stroke and ability to score in a variety of ways.

He broke down several of his top suitors for ZAGSBLOG:

Duke: “It felt great [to get an offer], it was definitely an honor, definitely a school that I grew up watching. Their message is basically is they love how I can score and love how I can shoot. I’ve been just talking to [Jon] Scheyer about what his plan is for me and how he plans on coaching next year and his play style and all that. So just trying to figure out kind of what his plan is.”

Duke already has a commit from Kyle Filipowski and is the favorite to land Dariq Whitehead on Sunday. Schutt would be another strong piece to Scheyer’s first class.

“Yeah, it definitely would be a solid recruiting class,” Schutt said.

Michigan State: “Michigan State, they just continually say how they love my game and how it’s progressed. They just keep saying we would have some great guards in there and a great scoring class with me and Max [Christie] and some of their other players that they’re trying to get.”

Illinois: “They just keep saying, ‘Be the next Ayo [Dosunmu], stay home. They develop pros, kind of that stuff.”

Iowa: “[Coach Fran] McCaffery just keeps saying how much he loves my game and how I work hard and how I would fit into their offense and play style. He keeps saying how I would fit into the locker room with the guys.”

Florida: “They had some good guards come in. They just had Tre Mann and Scottie Lewis get drafted so they’re basically just saying he’s developed guards and he’s an upcoming young coach.”

Gonzaga (has yet to offer): “I feel like my play style would fit in pretty well with them, so just kind of hearing form them and trying to figure out what their plan is. They just keep saying how they love how I can shoot the ball, my athleticism and all that stuff.”

Schutt has no visits scheduled right now but plans to figure that out in the next few weeks. Wherever he goes, he plans to be “an athletic shooter and someone who can come off screens and run in transition and finish above the rim. And just be an overall play-maker as well.”
