Class of ’22 big man Christian Fermin commits to VCU

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Christian Fermin, the 6-foot-10, 217-pound big man from Pocono Mountain West (PA) and the PSA Cardinals, is headed to VCU.

“I’m going to be going to VCU,” he said by phone ahead of his public announcement. “It’s just the perfect program for me, the way they play, the style they play and where they see me going my first year there and for years to come, it’s just perfect.”

Ranked the No. 20 center in the Class of 2022 per 247Sports.com, he said he also considered Temple and Penn State.

“He has tremendous upside and still has not scratched the surface of his potential,” said PSA Cardinals coach Mark Carter. “He’s a late bloomer whose game is growing at a rapid rate. He is dedicated to his craft and just wants to get better each day. Plus he’s a fantastic kid with a great support system.”

Said Fermin: “I’m a forward who’s really versatile and can stretch the floor and play off mismatches. If I have a smaller guy on me, I can post him up. If I have a bigger guy who’s not as quick as me, I can take him to the perimeter. I just bring a lot of versatility and I’ll be a really great defensive presence.”
