Donovan Clingan set for UConn visit, eyeing Rutgers, Notre Dame, UNC trips in fall

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Donovan Clingan, the 7-foot-1 big man from Bristol Central (CT) and Team Spartans, will begin his official visit to UConn on Thursday, but that likely won’t be his final visit.

Clingan has already visited Michigan, Syracuse and Ohio State and still wants to see Rutgers, Notre Dame and North Carolina, possibly in August or the fall. Georgetown and Providence also remain in the mix for Clingan.

“He’s definitely going to do Rutgers at some point, Notre Dame’s still gotta be done, UNC is now involved,” Team Spartans coach Joe Chatman said Tuesday by phone. “Sean May has reached out and there’s heavy, heavy interest there. We haven’t set anything but those visits still have to be made.”

As for the UConn visit, he is perhaps the top priority for coach Dan Hurley and his staff. He has taken unofficial visits but this is his first official to campus.

“He’ll go there and he’ll spend time with the staff and some time with a few players that just arrived back on campus and get a chance to get a feel for how they feel about UConn,” Chatman said.

After returning Friday, he will play with his Team Spartans teammates in an NE6 event in Springfield. He’s also slated to play live events in Atlantic City twice in July.

As for a timetable on a decision, it will be “sometime before his high school season starts,” Chatman said. “It could be sooner, but it’s not going to be later than that.”
