Josh Roberts is transferring and staying in the same city.
The former St. John’s forward will transfer to Manhattan and play for coach Steve Masiello, he told ZAGSBLOG. He is the second Big East transfer for Manhattan in two seasons. A year ago, Masiello brought in former Seton Hall guard Anthony Nelson, who averaged 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
“I feel like Coach Masiello is going to push me to be the best I can be and is going to help me expand my game,” Roberts said. “I love it here in the city and my family is from up here. My role will increase and I’ll be able to showcase everything I can do and show my game isn’t only predicated on defense.”
The 6-foot-9 Alabama native averaged 2.6 points and 2.7 rebounds last season for the Johnnies after averaging 5.0 points and 5.8 rebounds as a sophomore. He was one of six St. John’s players to transfer out of Mike Anderson’s program.
Manhattan last week also added a commitment from 6-3 guard E.J. Dambreville, a big-time shooter from Division 2 Florida Southern who averaged 17 points and 12 boards last season.
