Five-Star center Enoch Boakye has committed to Arizona State and will reclassify into the 2021 class, he told ZAGSBLOG Thursday.
“Watching them this season, I noticed they didn’t have a dominant force at the center position,” Boakye said. “There was a need for a big and having the chance to talk to coach Bobby Hurley, we built a relationship.
“That made me feel comfortable playing under him, especially knowing there is a need in the big man position.”
The 6-foot-10, 240-pound center from George Harris Prep (ON), de-committed from Michigan State on Feb. 15, before picking up offers from Wake Forest, Oklahoma State, Washington, Washington State, UCLA, Maryland, Texas Tech, Illinois and San Francisco, among others.
Before reclassifying, Boakye was ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 4 center and No. 20 overall prospect in the Class of 2022.
“[Arizona State fans] can expect a dominant force in the paint, a guy who tries to dunk everything. That’s the reputation I’ve kind of had, so far,” Boakye said. “My ability to rebound the heck out of the ball. I also have the ability to put the ball on the floor and that’s what I believe separates me from a lot of other bigs.
“I’ve been working hard to expand my game, develop a jump shot and stretch the floor.”
He joins three-star prospects Demari Williams, William Felton, Justin Rochelin and Jamiya Neal as the fifth commit in the Sun Devils’ 2021 class.
