Kentucky’s Isaiah Jackson declares for NBA Draft

By RYAN McMULLEN

Kentucky freshman forward Isaiah Jackson announced Wednesday he will test the NBA Draft waters but won’t sign with an agent so he can retain his college eligibility.

The 6-foot-10 Jackson averaged 8.4 points and 6.6 rebounds through 25 games during a disappointing season that saw the Wildcats finish 9-17. Among the Kentucky freshman, he is the highest projected draft pick at No. 15, according to ESPN.com.

“Playing in the NBA has always been a dream of mine growing up,” Jackson said. “It has always been something that, with the right opportunity, I would pursue. I would like to thank God for giving me the strength and ability to play the game I truly love. I want to thank my family and my friends for being there for me through thick and thin. And I would also like to thank Coach Cal, the staff, and the Big Blue Nation for the privilege to play at Kentucky and for the opportunity to pursue this dream. No matter what I ultimately decide, this place will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Jackson was selected to the All-SEC Freshman Team and Defensive Team.

“Isaiah made unbelievable strides to put himself in a position to test the waters. He grew throughout the year and became more confident on both ends of the floor,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari said. “He has a tremendous ability as a defensive player and really grew and developed his offensive game as the season wore on. I am anxious to see how this process plays out for him.”
