Alabama’s Nate Oates Named SEC Coach of the Year, Herbert Jones Player and Defensive Player of the Year; Kentucky strikes out on 1st and 2nd teams

Alabama’s Nate Oats was named SEC Coach of the Year and Alabama’s Herbert Jones was honored as Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-8 Jones averaged 10.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks for a Crimson Tide team that finished 21-6, 16-2 in the SEC and is the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament.

Oats recently signed an extension through the 2026-27 season that will increase his annual pay to $3.225 million.

Arkansas’ Moses Moody was named Freshman of the Year.
