Villanova sophomore guard Justin Moore is doubtful for this week’s Big East Tournament with a “severe ankle sprain,” head coach Jay Wright said Monday.
“We’re all praying for Justin Moore’s recovery,” Wright said. “The evaluation is a severe ankle sprain. He will be doubtful for the Big East Tournament.”
The Wildcats are a projected No. 4 seed for the NCAA Tournament and still have about 10 days for Moore to recover before then.
Moore injured the ankle during the first half of Saturday’s 54-52 loss to Providence.
He is averaging 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Without him, it will be point guard by committee for the Wildcats, with Caleb Daniels and Chris Arcidiacono among those in the mix.
Villanova won the Big East regular-season title for the seventh time since 2014 but is reeling with injuries heading into the Big East Tournament, where they are the No. 1 seed and open play Thursday at noon.
Senior point guard Collin Gillespie is done for the season with an MCL injury.
