The Ivy League will allow current senior student-athletes to play an additional season as graduate students next year, an Ivy League spokesperson confirmed to ZAGSBLOG Thursday.
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello was first to report the news Thursday.
The decision comes following a meeting among Ivy League President’s on Tuesday. The rule change comes after the Ivy League canceled its fall and winter seasons for the 2020-21 academic year.
“This change is a direct result of the pandemic and will not be available in future years,” the Ivy League said in an email to senior athletes obtained by the Associated Press Thursday. “Student-athletes who wish to take advantage of this waiver must be admitted to as a degree seeking graduate students through regular channels at their undergraduate institution.”
The Ivy League became the first Division 1 conference to cancel its men and women’s basketball conference tournaments in March of 2020, due to COVID-19 concerns.
