Teexas head coach Shaka Smart announced Monday he has tested positive for COVID-19.
“I tested positive for COVID and am in isolation away from our team and my family,” he said. “I am working remotely and look forward to rejoining our team in person when it is safe to do so.”
Associate head coach K.T. Turner will coach while Smart is away from the team.
No. 5 Texas is set to host Oklahoma Tuesday and then visit Kentucky in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Saturday. They host No. 2 Baylor Feb. 2.
The Longhorns are 11-2 with wins over No. 3 Kansas and No. 14 West Virginia.
Last week Texas sophomore forward Brock Cunningham tested positive for the virus and Greg Brown and Kai Jones had to quarantine for 7-10 days because they practiced with Cunningham.
Smart is the latest high-profile coach to have tested positive, joining Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim, Villanova’s Jay Wright and Baylor’s Scott Drew, among others.
