Villanova coach Jay Wright learned from a reporter on a Zoom call Tuesday that his school’s women’s team had paused activities “due to COVID protocols and issues involving a previous opponent.”
Due to the pause, the Villanova women’s game at Providence on Wednesday was postponed. Villanova is scheduled to host Creighton on Dec. 19 and Connecticut on Dec. 22.
“I literally walked off the practice court…so I did not know that, so that’s news to me,” Wright said ahead of his team’s home game Wednesday with Butler.
“That really concerns me because we share the same hallways, we share the same practice facility, we share the same training room so I will leave here and that will be the first thing I do.”
The No. 7 Wildcats are slated to face No. 17 Virginia on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Wright’s team paused for 14 days before the season began. Eight of the 11 Big East men’s teams have paused this season, and DePaul has postponed or canceled 10 games and yet to play a game.
